Step 1: Unwrap Carefully (or Not!)

Most bouquets come wrapped in paper or plastic, which should be removed to let the flowers breathe. However, if your bouquet is arranged using wet floral foam (where the flowers are inserted into a water-soaked base), you don’t need to unwrap it. Simply place it on a stable surface and add water to the foam every couple of days to keep the flowers hydrated.

Step 2: Trim the Stems

For hand-tied bouquets, use sharp scissors or pruning shears to cut 1–2 cm off the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle. This helps the flowers absorb water better. Re-trim the stems every couple of days for the best results.

Step 3: Prepare a Vase

  1. Clean the Vase: Wash it thoroughly to remove any bacteria.
  2. Fill with Water: Add room-temperature water and mix in flower food if provided.
  3. Arrange Your Bouquet: Place the flowers in the vase and adjust them to your liking.

Step 4: Choose the Right Spot

Place your vase in a cool area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or drafts. Keep it away from ripening fruits, as they release ethylene gas that can shorten the life of your flowers.

Step 5: Maintain Regularly

Fresh flowers bring joy and elegance to any space, and with these tips, you can enjoy their beauty for days longer. Need flower care supplies or want to learn more about handling flowers? Visit our flower shop and register for our DIY Flower Arrangement Classroom.
